Your Favourite Photography Book?

It could be technical or artistic, about one photographer or one period. Something completely different.

Christmas is coming. Time to drop hints around the household...

my favourite of the moment is a digital book , 25th Anniversary Big Book ... $2000 in hardback

'David Bailey: the birth of cool' is one of my favourites. Also one of the portfolios of Saul Leiter (eg 'Early Color') are worth looking at. In terms of technique, I guess the most influential to me were, 'Gradient Light' by Eddie Ephraums and 'Photographic Printing' by Gene Nokon. "The Americans' by Robert Frank is also superb.

While I am not a camera collector by any means (cameras and gear do not hold any sentimental value for me), I am, however, a big collector of photo books.

Some of my favorites from my collection are

As Pete mentioned, The Americans by Robert Frank

The Ballad of Sexual Dependency by Nan Goldin.

I have several large books by Sebastiao Salgado- all of them are superb.

The Fat Baby by Eugene Richards

Living With the Enemy by Donna Ferrato

Those are just a few that come to mind right away. I am always stopping at garage sales, flea markets, used book stores, etc.....looking for really good photo books.

There is nothing like making myself a nice drink, settling in a comfortable chair next to nice reading light, and opening up a good book of art.
