    New 75 year old camera

I have a few of these, and there are some things to note: * The lever around the rewind crank is dioptre adjustment for the viewfinder * In common with all screw leicas and copies, only change shutter speed after winding on * In unserviced cameras, speeds below 1/30 can be a bit lazy *You'll...

    Shadow of war

It makes perfect sense. Silhouettes, full or partial, always add an air of mystery. Definitely works for me.

    The Grand Coulee Dam

Love the contrast - and those skies! Can I ask, did you use a red filter or a polariser?

    Sony Centre Berlin

I used to have a Sigma DP1s - the results from that in good light were absolutely knockout. Full on pain in the arse to shoot though...

    Sony Centre Berlin

Thank you - it is a pretty amazing structure. All the other times I'd been in there it was either dark or raining - looks quite different in the sun I think I managed about 6 x 8 when i printed it. Like i said before, I think the contrast makes up for the lack of megapixels. I remember being...

    Sony Centre Berlin

Thank you, glad you like it. I'd been through there on plenty of other occasions over the years but never in bright sunlight. And when I got the opportunity, I only had a pretty low end camera on me  I think what gives the impression of sharpness is the good image contrast, which...

    Sony Centre Berlin

A bit of a trip down memory lane. I was working for a company in Velten ( about half an hour from Berlin), and fairly frequent visitor. My boss suggested that I bring the family for the weekend,so he could show me the sights of Berlin. On this trip out I only had a very basic 5mp HP 517 with...

Neither of mine are marked like that. I believe they were on general sale for a short while - probably a well off doctors or solicitors camera.. I seem to remember my late father telling me that they became uncompetitive in the market place after the government on the day ( early 50's?) lifted...

Only anout 2700 Reids were made, and I have 2. Apparently they were made to higher tolerances than the Leica, and werea good bit more expensive in their time . Cameraworks say they can service these, so the one in the picture will go off for a service in the near future. Quite looking forward...

Pete, Ralph thanks for the replies. In the 1980's admitting your interest in photography was the first step in becoming a social outcast. It's now seen to be quite cool to be messing around with old cameras. Suits me fine!

I do like a good forum..

Being a keen reader of 35mmc, and been infected with the photography bug since 1980, I thought I would swing by. Looking forward to some good natured discussions with some similarly afflicted souls.
