There is a lot to look at in this photo [should you be foolish enough to choose to(!)] - I think I counted nine layers of 'stuff'. But it's a small portion of a much wider image, with a lot more going on in it. I often shoot wide, knowing that I will be cropping later, sometimes massively so.

Am I a sinner?
A couple of people have pretty much told me so.
I've said in reply (...and always with a smile) that that's a load of loblocks, because I knew what I wanted to extract from the image when I hit the button.
 
I have no problem with cropping etc. Sometimes you see a new way of presenting something you saw and at other times you just had the wrong lens for the opportunity - in the case above I suspect it would have been unwise for you to try and move closer!

As to the image, I think it is wonderful and the balance of the composition, the composition and the current interest elements come together wonderfully. And then there is the enigmatic message and the other circles / symbols.
