It's too bad the camera wasn't positioned about 6-8 inches lower. Please try it next time.
with most birds you would be correct.You don't always have the time to choose inches in these circumstances. It's enough if you have the time to shoot. Isn't that so, @Gary Gruber?
Please understand: after 40+ years as a pro photographer, and tons of portrait work, my eye sees the correct level for camera placement quickly.
