Thanks for looking

Impressive shots Peter, care to pop into the welcome section and tell us a bit about your self ...
I'm guessing you like a bit of sports photography? :)

Hi Peter is that Chabal. I dont really follow Rugby although i did love British bulldog in 2ndary school
Chabal i just really like his raging fury on the field, his sensitivity off the field.
There was an article a few years ago in one of the broadsheets, Sebastien Chabal's wife said he grew the beard to hide his face because he is so sensitive.

Chabal is that French player is he not, Ahmad? I don't think that's him. To me Chabal is more imposing looking than the chap in the images above. He's quite a specimen, Chabal.

Peter: I love these shots. I want to do a bit more sports photography myself and so I'm interested in what equipment you used to capture these images. And welcome to RPF, by the way.

Hi Hamish, thanks for the suggestion, I just added a "hello' to the community.
I do enjoy sports photography

Welcome Peter. Although I'm not a follower of sports myself, I can appreciate these shots and the way they display the sensitivity associated with this! ;) Fabulous stuff and looking forward seeing more.

Ahmad thanks for looking and your comments, but the dragon player you are referring to is Ian Nimmo

Brian thanks for the compliment, these were shot with a canon 300mm f/2.8 IS mounted on a canon 1DMKIII

Hamish? Have you ever met Harnish? Lol :p
Don't mind me Pete..... :D:D

Great shots however, like the tones and colours on these. They seem very 'true like' and more qualify for rag shot entries. Is this what you do? How long have you been doing this?
Care to introduce yourself in our Meet and Greet section?

And this is where I say..... Shut up Dan.... He's already done that!! Lol.
As I said.... Don't mind me :D:D

Peter - I'm loving the use of shallow DOF to really make the players pop, and the crowd becomes an attractive blur.

Must have been using some long fast glass?

Timing and lighting are wonderful, especially liking #2 - do you shoot a burst and pick the best, or just pick the critical moment as you take a single shot?

Looks like you have press access - do you get to roam the sidelines, or do they stick you in one spot for the half?

Brilliant stuff - welcome to RPF, looking forward to more! :)

These were shot with a 300 f/2.8 lens

I try and take short bursts at peak times, usually max of three frames any more there would be a ton of photos to cull.

It depends upon the sport and stadium I am covering (rugby, soccer, GAA). I usually pick the try line of the team I am covering and then switch ends at half time.

Thanks again Chris
