The ice is broken, as are the shores of the pond. It's nicely repetitive in a subtle way. Great catch!

Yes, it is a dew pond. There are a number of them on the South Downs.

I've never seen one with water in, just as depressions. There's one near The Long Man isn't there?

Yes, there is one near the Long Man, two on the path between Beachy Head and Butts Brow and a number of others in my area. They normally have water in them. Very popular with dogs.
