When I was a kid I loved trains so much, I almost wished that I was Thomas the tank engine! I loved everything about them. The scale of the engineering was monstrous from my low view-point, And...they took you places too! What more do you need than a service or product that's good at what it does!
These have also reminded me of a fondness I used to have for walking for miles and miles down a single line in the Irish country side. Bliss! (Nirvana - Unplugged in New York, was in my massive yellow shock-proof Walkman back then!)
I've never tried photographing trains, not really my bag now; but I see some great details in those plumes of smoke.
They look like they produce a tremendous amount of white to contend with.
I really like these photos, lovely images also, for posterity.
Critique-wise, I would say, without knowing much about the detail you want to record, would be to try alternative perspective's. The canal I imagine would provide a beautiful reflection on a sunny day. You've already caught some fantastic one's. Or panning!
Lovely shots though, and I'm going to put on Unplugged right now!
