A taster of Pentewan...

Nice ones Dan. I live just up the road from Pentewan. The first pic is the beach besides Pentewan beach, Portgiskey. A lot of the cloud pics I take with a silhouette little tree are taken from the beach up towards where you took the second photo from. I guess you walked from Mevegissey?
Looking forward to seeing what else you have and your take.Off to St.Ives this morning, your other haunt? hopefully to see a new exhibition, which includes Patrick Heron's work.

Wow Juilan, thanks for that info. That's really useful! I was wondering what the beach was called where the ruins are. I take it you've been there before then? :)
We've stayed at Pentewan Sands for the week. As you and many others have experienced, the weather has been a corker down here.
I walked to Mevigissey and back along the coastal path, it's beautiful.
I've been getting up most mornings to go out for a walk before the sun rises in an effort to catch the right moment/place to photog. I'm not a landscape photographer, but this is worth trying if not walking to appreciate the beauty within our very own country's costal line, I'm sure Julian you would agree.
The other morning I walked to the fort from Pentewan sands that lies east of Trenarren. There was a point I said to myself half way along the most extreme costal path I've come across, "**** this, I'm heading back!" Ha, but as I saw the sun peaking over the horizon it give me the enlightenment' to carry on, despite me being a complete an utter fool for wearing beach shoes throughout all my explores. Without saying, my feet are pretty battered.
I took my nikon for the explores along the coast just for a bit if ease and the wide angle if the 10-20mm. I have got some lovely shots with it, but ultimately I can't wait with the 8 rolls of film I have ready to dev.

How far are you from Pentewan then Juilan?

Dan? Sorry been busy. Not far. I was Born at Heligan and grew up there. Now I am between St. Austell and Pentewan.
The path east of Pentewan is not too bad. I have not walked it in years, it can be hard going coming back. The coast path I liked a lot was from Goran Haven to Hemmick via the Dodman (deadman) point, now that is a killer walked in the east direction. I wonder if you were at Pentewan when the GIG race was on the other day at half term. I popped in to see a few folk I know who were rowing.Took a few snaps which did not mount to anything. Glad to here you had a good time and yep the weather broke today and it is raining.

Wow, you wasn't far away at all! I passed regularly through a village called London Apprentice. How bizzare for a name of a village around that area. I really had a brilliant time. And glad the weather held for so long.
I was there from the 1st to last Saturday, not sure when the gig race was.

Oooh, now I have a question for you that maybe you could answer me. I've looked everywhere on the net and can't seem to get an answer.
We were stood on Pentewan sands around 20:00hrs on Tuesday I think it was. And out of the blue there was what can only be described as a huge deep (I mean DEEP) banging noise that occured around every 2 seconds, lasting around a total of 15/20 secs.
It was sooo deep and powerful we all felt it on our chests. It was strange, there were no ships visible.
It was a noise I've never heard before........ Do you have any ideas what this may be?

I had a feeling you'd respond with something like that Pete! :) Haha!!

Yep possibly. It is one of two, the second most likely. They do use explosives in the clay area which is open cast. Unlikely at that time, very unlikely. There blasts are noisy rather than physical.
There is navy firing range off of Pentewan. The ships station themselves off Looe to Plymouth and the target area is off of the Dodman Point, about a mile or so. Normally you can see the ships, either quite clearly or just if you know where to look.
