A well maintained road... (not)

What a great image, Stevenson! Brian's vision is similar to what went through my mind.
On the other hand followers of Messrs Lennon and McCartney might imagine this scene to be somewhere on the fringes of Blackburn, Lancashire.
Thanks Chris - that one hadn't occurred to me!

Funnily enough the shot is only about 20km from where I live and most of the local roads are quite reasonable at present, although we have had couple of wet years with a lot of potholes. But for some reason, this road seems to have been overlooked from the general upkeep.

Those ‘crucifixes‘ in the distance brought to my mind a grim reminder of the 6,000 slaves led unwittingly by Spartacus into a trap between two Roman armies. They were all crucified along the Appian Way, the longest road in Italy at the time. Try not to think of that while walking along that road next time!
😟 I always did think that was a grim stretch of road... now I know why!

Thanks Rob!
