Abraham Lincoln in Edinburgh

Love the graphic comp with the bare trees and the skyline

I'd have been tempted to go even tighter with a 16x9 or 16x7 crop - loose some sky and foreground

I like! :)

Thanks, Chris and Paul. I agree with you, Paul, the contrast between the straight lines of the stones and the wonderful flowing rhythm of the trees lifts this shot.

Funny you you should mention rhythm in regards to an image, not many people do, must be the musician in you. At college one of my tutors always used to talk about the rhythm and resonance of pencil strokes when drawing. I tend to look at most images that way as a result, often with a complete disregard to composition and subject matter mind you. [doh]

I often, if not always, see images in terms of music - that's what I know best. Sound is just one manifestation of a reality, and we tend to favour those sounds that have a semblance of order; it resonates (literally) with us and helps us make sense of our world. Somewhat late in my life I'm beginning to see this visually as much as aurally, which is surprising and enjoyable - I'm now seeing the same things I am hearing: themes, tonal variation, rhythm, harmony (consonance and dissonance), counterpoint, etc, etc.

Either that or these drugs are getting the better of me :p
