Critique Welcomed Alex the Bride

Cheers Dave ...
yeah, they were lucky with the sunshine ... You remember that day in may when it was sunny ... That was the day!
Bloddy hot it was, but it's made the photos!

Very very good Hamish,
Typical of Tom to have something vintage army in the wedding somewhere.
I like the way that (if people know Tom) you can see a subtle influence in the shot.
Very well captured, very unique. That's what I call wedding photography!!

Looking lovely and 'Velvia' Hamish - those lovely greens and blues

I love natural looking wedding shots and in my days as a wedding photographer it was always a favourite of mine to take. You have done a great job here, the image has a nice balance to it and wonderful colours. Just a small point and something I was always keen to do, and in particular where you have strong sunlight, is to use a little bit of fill in flash if you can. It will lift the shadows around the eyes and lift the image as well. The inclusion of the jeep is a great feature. One other feature of this image is that you have captured the bride at her happiest, sharing her day with friends and family and images such as this will be a long lasting memory for her. Thanks for sharing. ;) Sorry to go on a bit, I just love this type of photography.

It's this type of photography that I sell as my service ...
we didn't do a single group shot on this job, just all reportage with just a couple more organised ones of the B&G! I love it too!
I don't tend to use fill flash ... I find the extra weight and cumbersome nature of a flash slows me down... And I'm not sure that I even prefer the results. Ok I might loose some darkness under eyes etc, but I like shooting natural light, I love the "pop" and the dynamics of sunlight ... Flash just flattens things a bit to much for me. Personal taste I suppose ... I know it's probably more the "right" way to do it ... But it's just not for me.
Plus, the sb900 overheats at the speed I shoot and there is nothing more annoying than a beeping overheating flashgun when you are "in the moment" so to speak...
You can have a look at the full set here if you like

Im sure Tom won't mind...
And cheers :)

I had a look at the album and the couple must be very pleased with thier images. Great work, I do agree with what you say as my memories of aching arms are still with me. I think me term fill in flash was misleading because as you pointed out fill in flash can flatten the image. What I used was a whisper of flash. Great album of reportage images and thank you for letting me view them.

Cheers Steve! :)
yes I know the "whisper" of flash idea ... -2.7 EV is my happy balance on the sb900 ... That's where that flatness doesn't occur So much
... But as I say, I'm striken with te weight.
Ive just "downgraded" from a d3 to d700 for weight issues ... I just can't handle it!
Maybe I should just bulk up ;)

Cheers or the positive comments, I'm feeling pretty good about this set so it's good to hear others liket them! :)
