Pete, by now you probably know that I have no resistance...

I purchased the Nikkor 50/1.4 that was used to take the first 4 photos as well as the Nikkor 70-300 that was used to take the one of the stock of film in the rear of the store.

I didn't seriously look at any cameras.

I have been looking for a nice one of these for quite some time and on Sunday night, there it was on eBay just wanting to be bought. So after a bit of wreckless bidding it was mine. Arrived today and, just before I left work, I thought I'd take a few snaps of it to share. Decided on a slightly antique PP to suit!

Well today was the day! Unfortunately the model escaped to the gym! So improvisation was in order...

The set-up

One shot taken (ISO 100, 1s at f1:4.7 - ie wide open) and processed.

Ilford Delta 100, ID11, 24ºC, 7.5 minutes.

The moment of truth!!

Looking good.

As you will know, some time back I purchased a Speed Graphic (http://www.realphotographersforum.com/forum/threads/1947-speed-graphic.4140/). Its condition was pretty good and the shutter in the lens worked well (http://www.realphotographersforum.com/forum/threads/1947-speed-graphic-first-shots.4391/). However, the focal plane shutter was stiff and slow and was in no way useable. Having just purchased a second Aero Ekar , I thought it was about time to sort out the focal plane shutter so I could mount it on the Speed Graphic (there is no shutter in the Aero Ektar...

At last I have got round to fitting the Aero Ektar to the Speed Graphic. Below you can see the lens mounted using a custom-made board to which a threaded tube has been fitted. The advantage of this is that the cutout of the front standard does not need to be eased to accommodate the large diameter of the rear element. The disadvantage is that it throws the centre of gravity a long way forward and strains the standard. I also have a JoLo panel which pushes the centre of gravity further back but will need the cutout to be filed slightly. I will do this at the weekend as I think it will...

Pete, that Jobo ATL 1500 looks great but at $2000 (used) it's a bit on the spendy side for as much film as I do.

Having one would only make me feel guilty that I wasn't shooting more film. I think I've decided that without the ability to wet print from my negatives continuing to shoot film is a bit nuts. Besides, I'm really enjoying shooting the D810

Luckily such a camera store doesn’t exist within reasonable proximity to my house. The nearest similar is in Tucson (Monument Camera.)

If there was a shop like with closer than a few hour drive - more of my already limited salary would find a new home. That being said, I would rather spend the monthly e-bay budget at a local camera store.

My wife doesn't want me ordering online. So, I drove over to Blue Moon. It's only on the other side of town but it takes me about 40 minutes to get there.
