Australian Animals

I love that there are so many exotic animals running (and flying) around. Even in the center of Sydney, you're more likely to see a cockatoo or a parrot (or a bat) flying through the city than a pigeon. And I almost hit a Kangaroo driving through the countryside. They're everywhere! Anyway, here's a sample:

These bats are a regular site in the trees of the botanic garden, downtown Sydney.

A sulphur-crested cockatoo perched on a fountain across the street from the house we had rented in the middle of the city.

An emu who followed us around on Kangaroo Island

Koalas are everywhere... Just look up whenever you're in a grove of Eucalyptus trees

On Kangaroo Island (appropriate name)

Emu and Roo - classics! :D

You nearly hit one! See what I have to go through everyday on my drive home :D
Great shots again, Darren :) where abouts in aus dd your adventures take you?

Thanks, Brodie and Chris! I tried to inject some humor into the shots.

We rented a house in Sydney for a week, then flew to Adelaide, where we stayed in an apartment for three days. We then drove down through McLaren Vale wine country and took the ferry to Kangaroo Island. That's where I nearly hit a Kangaroo. One jumped right in front of my car and I had to skid to a stop... went sideways! Anyway, we rented a house on Kangaroo Island for 6 days and then drove back up to Adelaide and flew back to Sydney directly. We stayed for two more days in Sydney and then home. Next time, we want to go up to Port Douglas and Brisbane.

There's way too many and they have zero road sense. Lol. It's like they jump out as you're driving past on purpose.
Sounds like you had a lovely time :) some nice spots you stayed in. Yeh next time you should Deffinately make it up to the sunshine coast. It's lovely up there.

Some great shots there, I think the Emu shot is Brill, certainly giving you the eye...lol.

The emu is classic! And funny. Really great set there, Darren. (Them Ozzy possums are much prettier than our North American ones that's for sure!)

Thanks, all! Agree. Aussie possums are very much different animals from our North American variety. Cuter, unless you hear them tearing up your roof at 3 in the morning (which we did).

Wonderful shots!
Is that kangaroo drinking beer?
The koala in the tree reminds me of Connie for some reason ... she often falls asleep slumped over something ... and has sharp claws :)
A really nice collection of animal photos there mate!
Looks and sounds like you had a really nice trip! Im somewhat envious I have to admit!
NEED A HOLIDAY!

Good shots. I do like the Emu especially.

You will enjoy Brisbane. However, Port Douglas is really good. Go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. Visit the Daintree and see if you can match the Emu picture with one of a Salt Water Crocodile!

Thanks, guys! That was, indeed, a beer bottle (Coopers). But it was kangaroo formula in there, rest assured. Port Douglas is next on our list. In fact, it was our first choice but we diverted to Plan B because of the box jellyfish up there this time of year. Next time... I look forward to getting up close and personal with a croc! By the way, Jim, that's a kangaroo, there! :-)
