Thanks. The photo came from my phone, lit with a desk lamp. It was then just a desaturate ('average') process in GIMP. I shoved up the contrast after desaturating until just before the highlights began to white out, and after that, tweaked the brightness to a level that I thought gave the right atmosphere. I've been very shy of black and white in the past, but I quite liked the mood of this.

Thanks Grez. I quite like the slightly pixelated look of this and the 'sparkly' highlights are very interesting and effective.

I think some of it is down to the (poor) quality of the phone, but it adds to the atmosphere.
