black & white film

Did a unit on black and white film + developing process as part of the photography/digital design course I took at tafe. A lot of the unit was learing the process and how everything works.. I quite enjoyed it. It's exciting watching what was once a blank roll of film soon become a developed photograph. So these are just a few I developed. They're not great shots as i was and still am getting my head around nailling the right settings but i gave it a go and had fun. so all is chill :)
(ps.. dodgy scanner we have ;) )

I've got some Ilford HP5 in my camera and am about 1/2 way through the film at the moment. It won't be long before i need to develop it although I might get it developed by Ilford so I have a comparison standard later on. I like the discipline of using film, without seeing what you have just taken you have to spend a bit more thought about what you are doing and choose your shots a bit more carefully. At least I hope i have, I will find out later I guess.

The, and it's a good way to learn i think. We did a digital unit before the film, but learning about how it works and what not then makes everything make adore sense haha. We would roll our own film at tafe and for two weeks straight I'd go out and take photos on the weekend, come back, do all the chemical stuff.. Take the negatives out once they're developed... And they would be blank -_- turns out the camera she gave me to use for the unit was broken in some way. So that was sad.. Every week they would come out blank haha. But I finally got some out after sing a different camer. I've taken some since but haven't developed them, Hamish :)

Keep going at it Brodie you will get great satisfaction out of the process and learn a lot from it too, I have three cameras loaded with B&W, Two with 120 HP4 and one with 35mm in an Agfa Super Silette.............just waiting for me to get a little motivation and time:)

I got the usual look of disdain from the missus but she'll come round once I explain that it packs flat and is much cheaper and convenient that pretty much every other method available to me. Space may be a bit tight you don't really ned loads of kit in there with you.

thwn what you planning on growing Hamish................toms??????? you are becoming a domesticate :)

I wondered if the plant growing jokes would follow! I thought about the silver lining issue and maybe it can be solved with a card screen around enlarger to block any reflections, or if that doesn't work I have found a cheap source for blackout fabric. I think it's a problem that can be solved easily. Anyway the plants will block a lot of the light.
