Dan Down - The Steampunk Womble
I met up with a great photograher today (just as the snow was starting) from Bromsgrove who shared a great interest for the location of this site where many of cars lay to rest.
I've been here many of times before, and each and evertime things change. What I mean by that is that car parts are stolen from this location which is a big disappointment.
Me and Andy took a reccie around the place which I believe is a good recommendation before any kit is taken out of the bag and photog commences. you never know....
Next thing you know we where surrounded by 4 coppers coming from all directions (and I think another 2 on the main road)..... you'd of thought we'd of had ak47's to begin with the way they hunted us down. lol
Anyway, upon approach they immediately identified through our equipment that we had no relevance to the suspiscion of theft in which they were notified by from a member of public.
As we were on 'unknown' land, we fully cooperated with the police and provided them with identification upon request, If in a public area then it'd be a different story.
As I was explaining to one officer what we doing here they other one with us checking us out.... and the other two where checking the rest of the location out in case they were more of us.......
It was explained to us that there has been many of thefts (which I unfortunately know about) and they had every right to act upon any entry to the land with appropriate suspiscion........ agreed IMO.
damm right they should protect this wonderful place from the scum that vandalise and steal from it.
One of the officers ask me what it wa that we were doin here.... and I explained as truthfully as I was stood there.....'We're taking photos of the cars'...... at this point they couldnt see what the fuss was all about....
one replied 'what, of these old things' lol.... I say no more. lol.
After a few convincing words were exchanged, I couldn't believe it..... I (we) ended up giving the police officers a tour of the location which they happily enjoyed.... and they couldnt believe their eyes!!! The one I could tell had a good knowledge of cars and was reeling the makes on the site off his tongue like no ones business. It seemed like a blast from the past for him. lol
As we fully cooperated with the fuzz, and caused no hassle to them what so ever. They were happy for us to carry on a 'blind eye' basis if you know what I mean.
I must admit, it was a great experience meeting the police. I had no concerns at all when they turned up.
At the end of the day, if I was churping and back chatting they could of kicked us off stright away!
'twas a better experience than dealing with security gaurds that haven't a clue how to talk to people.
So they left us to it.
we got our cameras out and started snapping.
Can't wait to see his Andy's results and what he has achieved with his 10-20mm.
I've recommended to him that he joins RPF, his work is brilliant!!!
Here are some of my results
