Nice one Brian. What does strike me is the subtle tones and colours, very different from what we mostly see toaday in images. Superb.

Great colours Brian and I do like to see a bit of engagement. I like also the red-painted kerb at the bottom of the shot. It works well with the overall palette. Now let me see, what was it that attracted you to that particular kiosk. Ah, I see. You must have fancied a coffee! ;)

Just as a check, the focus looks a touch soft on this and a couple of other shots. How accurately is you scanner scanning Brian? Do the negatives look sharper than the scan (under a loupe say)? I know for example that my Epson 750 is a touch off and it affects the sharpness of the scan - hence my purchase of a Better-Scanning holder. In contrast, my Microtek is spot on (as, as you would hope, is the negative scanner).

Thank you, Julian. I like the Portra 160 colors a lot. I haven't tried the Portra 400 yet but people wax poetic about it. Thanks again, Julian.

It's cool that they seem chilled with it :)
Cool people are cool, ain't they, Jim? Thanks for the comment, Jim.

Thanks a lot, Pete. What attracted me? It was the odd combination of the iced lolly vendor adjacent to the coffee vendor; two commodities that don't seem symbiotic. And the visually incongruent pairing of the two kiosks was attractive.

Your comment about the focus is appreciated. If it were the XA I might put the softness down to the camera, since it's extremely difficult to focus using its rangefinder. Indeed, I don't even try anymore,...I just zone focus with it. But this was the XA3, which is a zone focus camera.

On the other hand, I use an Epson V500 scanner. The negative holders for that scanner get much criticism for their fragile design. Indeed, the 35mm holder in particular is spindly at best. I sometimes wonder myself when scanning if I'm getting the best out of the images, especially when there is some side-to-side curl in the negs. I've been thinking about investing in a set of more robust holders assuming there are any for that particular scanner. Or,...could be the scanner is out of focus a bit?

Thanks again, Pete!

Lovely retro colors Brian - did you get a free samples?

Could be a film advert with that umbrella!
