For those who don't know i live at the base of Wales 2nd largest mountain, Cader Idris. Here is the view of the mountain from a little further afield, with a light dusting of the snow that came down yesterday and coated the mountain tops above 1600ft

Same View zoomed in more on the mountain from the same viewpoint

I dont take many landscape photos as i am just never happy with my results then i seem to over saturate them then it looks false then i delete them and i put the camera away thinking why the hell did i bother........... Anyhow here is my latest attempt

would love to know your thoughts, be as brutal, critical & honest as you can be i wont get upset...........lol, i need some good advice to try and improve my landscapes shots as lets face it i live in an amazing place with some amazing scenery

Actually, these aren't bad pictures at all. I particularly like #2.

If anything the foreground is a little over saturated, at least for my taste.
You might want to tone the green down then, if you're using PS, use a levels adjustment to deepen the contrast in the hills.
The changes I'm talking about aren't major...you're mostly there.

I remember walking over Cader Idris many years ago, we walked along the ridge looking down to the lake at the bottom. A wonderful place.

I like em Daz,
It gives me a true display of colours of what I'd expect to see.
Maybe it's my eyes or iPhones screen if anyone was to differ, however, I think the saturation is soot on! :)
Great shots Darren!

I would agree with a little toning down of the greens in the foreground, not much though. Very often the mountains of North Wales and the Lake district can look to have pastel shades.

I like them both and probably prefer the first one! There the saturation works really well. On the second it tends to emphasise the foreground and detracts a little from the majestic backdrop. The second does give the mountain more stature.

The last time I was in the area was to walk up Tryfan.

Daz,
I see green swords like those when there's plenty of moisture and cool weather. So I wouldn't say they are over saturated. Yes you might increase the contrast slightly on the mountain but it looks kind of moist in the air and that would lend to the slight Haines. I like the shots. Both are well composed. The lines in each draw me into and though the images. Very nice.

To me it looks like the same place from a different angle. The stone building in your shot Hamish looks like the one in Darren's second shot (bottom right corner)...

it is the same place!
I recognised the fence in the first photo ... looks like he was just further along the same road ... (i think there is only one road in wales anyway ;))

i wondered how long it would take you Hamish, i do realise you have been a bit busy though so i never said anything :-)

i like them a lot , all i think I would do and with not using photoshop i'm not sure how you'd do it, is feather the meeting point between mountain and sky to make it look more natural... it's easy to do in Aperture but I don't use photoshop
