You can get extra prongs that fit on certain ones to let the camera know there is a lens attached, I get round it on my D3100 with just setting it to manual, some cameras can still do TTL metering if you let it know what the aperture settings are - mine can't lol.

There are loads of different adaptors you can get, which is why im getting an NEX as you can get anything ranging from an F mount, EF mount, M44, M39, C mount, D mount, PK mount lol

Those are the cheapest I can find on ebay, Nikon MF lenses from the 1980-90s are very very high quality, I know that people who use the adaptors a lot usually buy an adaptor for each lens and just keep it attached.
