Definitely was cool to have the Tilt-Shift Lens to get a different perspective on things.
Hi James
It's not essential, but seems to set new members on a good footing with the locals if you pop in to the welcome section and say hi! Meet and Greet
Apart from that ... Interesting shots!
"lofty shots" is the name a coincidence or do you shoot a lot of hot air balloons??
Interesting shots. I have the 17mm TS-E, as well, but I rarely use the tilt capability on the lens and generally only use it for architecture. It was nice to see it applied to a different subject. Thanks !
Tilt affects the image plane Chris - ie focus zone - whereas shift allows you to correct the geometry. Usually you are trying to maximise the in-focus areas of an image by tilting the lens relative to the film plane and using shift to ensure upright elements remain parallel. But of course you can go the other way and achieve very narrow focus planes / highly distorted perspective etc. Think of those images you see where the world is made to look like miniature versions. Does any of that make sense?
Sorry James, I got diverted. Welcome to RPF. And a really nice set of images to introduce yourself I must say. Somehow I missed your earlier posts but I nam catching up now!
Pete did a nice job of answering the question, but let me know if you want to know more, Chris. You're also welcome to play with either of my TS lenses when we finally get out shooting, to see first-hand how it works.
