One pastime I have enjoyed for many years, as and when opportunity presents, is navigating the Cut in a narrowboat. Back in 2005 we went as a family round the Cheshire Ring, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Towards the end of the holiday we took our boat down the Anderton Boat-lift onto the River Weaver for a couple of days. Quite an experience navigating the flow of a sizeable river. What we hadn't realised at the time (and much to the boat owner's consternation when we returned the boat) was that the river was in flood and potentially quite dangerous for a narrowboat. Still, all good fun and we obviously lived to tell the tale..
Here are a couple of night-views from then. Canon 350D, Tokina 19-35mm f3.5-4.5.
(Btw, there may be one or two more canal-oriented pics to come in due course, if folks don't mind)
