Are those Italian Cypress trimmed to that shape? I've not seen this before. Where were you when you shot this? A house balcony? An estate garden? Is that a walking path or a design element? I have so many questions.

I think they were Italian cypresses, but I'm not entirely sure — they might have been some other similar species. The photo is taken from above because I was walking along the narrow corridor that runs along the entire city wall of Cittadella (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cittadella), a small town in northern Italy (see photos below). The plants and the walking path in the photo were in the garden of a private villa.

Thanks. Quite a place. I'm guessing all the buildings have been updated with modern amenities such as indoor plumbing and running water but how was that accomplished without tearing up everything?
On a side note, my wife just surprised me with the DVD documentary, about Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, that you recommended to me. I have not yet watched it. Thanks.

As often happens, it's not always easy to balance the preservation of heritage inherited from the past with the needs of development, but I have to say that this little town, 'Cittadella' (whose name, by the way, means "small city"), has maintained a good balance, without excessive destruction.
Oh, I remember recommending that documentary to you — really interesting, I recommend it again.
