Dan Cattermole
Dan Down - The Steampunk Womble
I was delightfully informed by Mr Brookes on here about some works that the British Waterways & May Gurney are currently carrying out in order to improve/maintain the major lock system.
Many Many thanks Thomas, It really is astonishing to see the base of the lock and get an idea of how big it is!
Unfortunately, I was very limited in were I could take shots from.
At this moment in time I was on the phone to Hamish, wondering if he was coming out to play..... but he couldn't
bad times, bad times
He told me how much he liked the Island that lies between the wier and the locks, which happens to be 'private land' (to me, that means 'welcome, make yourself at home, and please do, explore till your hearts content') lol
Although no sign is displayed to indicate this, I took this to my advantage. tut tut. heheheheeee!!!
It really is a very tranquil and misterious place, I can understand the love that Hamish has for this Island, with a camera and permission, you could be on there for DAYS!!
Anyway, I don't know nothing about the history about this crane which I'm sure someone would be able to say as this is the first time I been on this Island. I spent about 45mins on there, and I thought right, time to go, I'm pushing my luck now.
Then, and only then a construction engineer approached me and said in a polite yet strict tone (and in a Jordie accent)
Jordie; 'What da fook ya doin on here like?'
Me; Taking pictures, not doing anyone any harm'
Jordie; 'Do ya nor, this is praavit proper'y?
Me; 'No I'm really sorry I didn't know, I'm only taking pictures, would you like me to leave?'
Jordie; 'Well, Me top gaffa is over there like, so I've gotta look like I'm doing sumink aboot it ya nor... hang aboot.... yer.. me gaffa's gettin in his mo'er..... yer, look man, jus' close da gate behind ya... I don't give a fook, ya can snap aaall deee long like alreet?.'
Me; 'alright, thanks very much. much appreciated'
Jordie; 'nor bother'
and thats how it went really. I found that if your assertive about the situation, explain what your doing, not aggressive, nor passive, you tend to get on the right side of the person your bieng approached by. lol.
Okay, enough trappin. more about the pictures now.
when I took the photos, I had a thought in my mind.
I programmed my brain to think that I was taking these shots in film, so I didn't press the shutter untill I was absolutely sure that what saw through the viewfinder, was what I wanted. (okay, lets exclude the PP afterwards) but let me assure you, there was alot of looking, and not alot of snappin, hence, these were the ONLY shots taken in the 45mins. chuffed with that. except the shaky shot caused by a gust of wind...... well I was on an Island
hope you enjoy
Sorry about this one, the idea was there, but so was the camera shake....... oopps
Thanks for looking
