the old ice plant in st augustine, fl reopened 6 mos ago as the st augustine distillery. for now they're limited to vodka and gin, but they have barrels of bourbon that will be ready in a few years. during the tour they encourage you to take photos (i've never been on a distillery tour that let you do that before) and then they make a few free drinks for you before depositing you in the gift shop.

Wonderful atmospheric shot Beth. We are heading down there in Nov to visit friends...maybe I can convince someone to take a look.

definitely try to do some convincing. did i mention it's completely free? small exhibit, short movie about their locally sourced ingredients and an impressive tour guide who was entertaining and wearing doctor who suspenders. palm coast is not too far south of st augustine, look for marineland on a1a and you can find the coquina rocks on the beach that was in the last photo i posted. there's a great little restaurant in south st augustine beach called mango mangos, just in case you don't get enough alcohol at the distillery.

Why doesn't that surprise me.

There was once a time that I drank primarily beer, wine and Scotch whisky. Then some years ago I discovered the peculiar delights of bourbon, a variety of "whiskey" derived through the distilling endeavors of the Scotch-Irish who inhabited what is today the state of Kentucky. My research led me to discover that there are some 3000 distillers of whiskey in the USA. This was music to my ears, @Ivar D. Larsen, since it meant I had a lifetime of research and development in front of me. :)

Lucky you Brian. Burbon to me is too sweet from I remember. Trinidads clear rum, nah that's the thing boy. (Pardon my trini swang ).

Well I guess this clinches my return trip to St Augustine. Haven't been there aside from the Alligator Farm for bird photography in quite some time. Free drinks and a photo op - woo hoo!
