I now have a 3GS 4 and 4s
Hannah is going to be using the 4
So I thought I might tinker with the 3GS ...
What does it do? Does anyone know much about it?
I'm not sure what I'm trying to achive really, maybe just finding out a bit more about it ...??

i jailbroke my ipod touch. it basically allows you download any app free, change the font of text, the layout, overall theme, free music downloads.. movies, etc etc.. so so much stuff it allows you to do. i loved my jailbreak :)
I's super easy to do also.. apparently you can do it off your phone now and dont even need to do it through computer.. im not good with technical stuff but it was pretty straight forward.

yes really easy its basically torrents on iphone illegal yes but lots of fun.....if all else fails just restore iPhone using itunes

all future free apps will not come from app store, they come from a further app callled cydia although you can use app store and pay for them if you wish

Any further info just ask.............

Do you pay for the software?
There seems to be so many websites about it, I don't really know where to start...?

Yes have lots of friends with jail break but most have reverted back. Some started having software issuses and it kept wiping the phone if it was turned off or the battery died. Also your warranty will be void. This is what my mates have told me. Apple have been cracking down on it as it's illegal you have to bear inmind the data sent from your phone. I personally don't agree with it. Developers spend time and money creating apps I don't mind spending 69p for their product.

totally free & as above, there is a risk of the phone being bricked "frozen & Unusable" then apple wont touch it when they realise you have jail broken it.

I have done it on 2 phones now without any issues. Sometimes the actual IOS becomes laggy and doesn't run quite as well as it should so i have reverted back to un jailbreak and installed IOS5 which IMO makes the phone run like a dream.

I suppose for the basis of experimentation on your 3GS would be alright for a mess around, but I wouldn't recommend you do it on hannahs or your phone. As Tom has stated, it is illegal and it will affect the software.
I have about 20gb of music on my laptop and all of it has been payed for, I refuse to 'steal' anyones work. However, that's just my opinion. :p
But as far as tinkering with the 3GS, cool, let me know how it goes....... :)

... I definitely wouldn't do it to my current phone, and I certainly wouldn't subject Hannah to it.
As I say, just interested in what it does...
Are you sure it's illegal?
I can't see how there could or would be any laws surrounding changing os on a computer ...
Maybe installing pirate software, but the actual OS can't be illegal!

its not the changing of the OS that is illegal, its the "cracked" apps that you are getting for free is a version or torrent files which i am sure is.

There are many other features IE themes and customisation of the phone that can be done to improves things & make it do things that apple wont allow.
