Eating Trees

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
I feel the need to apologise for this image. First to Hamish, because without those he posted a few weeks ago, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Actually... I'm not going to apologise any further. It seems I trespassed while taking this photograph. Our neighbours of 17 years own thousands of acres around us and yes, in the past I have sometimes strayed a few yards off the lane to shoot some delight or other. I've never gone through any fencing, just off the lane for bluebells, or sheep or trees in the snow and the results have given me a lot of pleasure.

Yesterday we got up very early so I could drive up the lane and photograph this wonderful old tractor where they have been coppicing. This was the first time they had left it like this and I thought it would probably be the last. I was stopped by one of their workers and made to feel like a terrorist. I was allowed to stay, but the joy had been ruined. We lost one of our young ferrets this week and it had been a way to cheer myself up.

I very nearly deleted everything I had taken, but then I processed one last night and I'm so glad I didn't...

Cheers Pete! My husband looked over my shoulder last night, grunted and then said it wasn't what I normally took... :D

I was thinking the other day that it reminded me of a person, but I couldn't find any character to fit. Then it came to me, it's just like Mater in the film Cars. The worker simply didn't get that I would want to photograph a muddy bit of machinery. Never mind :)

Very nice shot indeed, Lesley. Love the comp and the tones. Very good shot. The trees at the back seem to have gathered around, whispering to each other about the fate of their friends, worrying if the same fate will befall them...

It's a really sadly beautiful photo. I hate to see all those trees cut down. Everything about it is perfect...except for the dead trees.

Perfect Rob!!!!!!!!

I like it!
i was thinking about those machinery shots from last summer the other day ... I'd like to do something like it with my new pin hole! ... Just got to find something local ...

Definitely a 'jobsworth' Lesley - good for you for sticking to your guns (or camera in this case)

It does have a lovely 'Mater' feel to it doesn't it - what would a logging machine be called?

Kenny? ;)

Rob interprets your meaningful image very nicely, Lesley. :) It has a sad story, and the season adds to it. The worker should view himself as an element of terror to you and to the nature. There's an increasing number of "security droids" who effect our way of feeling and workflow.. Sorry for your ferret. :(
