Ella's Recovery

As some of you may know my daughter was knocked down by a car in February. Luckily it wasn't too serious and she is absolutely fine now. However, at the time............
When she came home from her stay in hospital I started to record her progress by taking a few photos of her each day. As time went buy this endeavour became more than just a photographic diary and eventually grew into what it is now. I hope you enjoy it and any comments most welcome.

As a father of 2 daughters I found that very hard to look at and if it affected me that way i can only imagine what you felt ... it is as good as it is because of the honesty and it should be out there for as many as possible to see. gonna hug my daughter now

Brilliant news that Ella's well on the way to recovery, looks like its been a hard few months for you all as a family and especially Ella

As for the PDF book...............what an amazing idea to document the recovery in this way, the text & images are amazing work, if not a little emotional when reading, maybe that because i am a soppy git lol.............. How about converting them pics & text into a slideshow video, with some nice music...............!!

Thank you Dave & Daz. It was certainly something that I ended up putting more of myself into than I realised I would when I started it. I do plan to convert it to a slide show for my website but never thought of music. It's so obvious really.

Very moving, Paul. I've lost count of the number of times I've worried about something like this happening to our daughter, and how would I react. I think you reacted in a beautifully sensitive way. Clearly you were deeply affected, and I can sense from the subtext, that Ella was often helping you. That's what families do. Good on you, mate.

I'm wondering what Ella thinks of her Dad's project?

Brilliant news to hear that Ella's doing well, can't believe how fast it has gone since you sadly announced the bad news.
And what a brilliant idea to document it all in a great way thats so personal to you and your family, and most definately appreciated by us all for you to share such a sensitive moment in your/Ella's life.
Some great photo's with very visable emotions.
All the best to Ella :)

Paul,

I don't know what to say. First of all it's great news that Ella has made a good recovery. Your photographs are stunning and the words very thought provoking. I don't have children, but I was in a similar position myself many years ago. When I was 20, I had a riding accident and suffered a spiral fracture of the left tibia and fibula. The hospital pinned and plated. As a result I got gangrene.

Having been a dancer, I simply can't understand what my parents went through. The first stay in hospital lasted three months and I was stuck on a geriatric ward. I got out eventually, but I was retired from work on medical grounds and had numerous operations over the next 7 years. It was during that time I decided to forget about the dancing and instead I wanted to be good at photography.

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. :)

I'm so glad your story had a happy ending.

Paul - best wishes to Ella, and your family

And what a great use for your skills as a photographer

Hi Paul, glad that your daughter is making a full recovery.
In these situation I can't help but look at the bright side & think "it could have been much worse"
she looks like a sweetheart and you have quite a beautiful family, god bless them.

Good to see your daughter's on the mend. That is a great photographic record snd some superb photography............ When anything happens to our children it's very much an emotional rollercoaster, and often leaves us feeling a bit helpless. My daughter went through heart surgery a while back and luckily she's fine.

Thanks for sharing it.......... You've really captured the jouney well.

Pete

Thank you all for the positive comments, much appreciated. I got in contact with the hospital as they have a department that is responsible for displaying art in the corridors. It seems they might be interested but I get the impression that there is a massive amount of bureaucracy and health and safety issue that they have to wade through just to get something displayed.

I had not heard about your daughter but as the father of a 6-year old girl, myself, I can completely relate to the terror and pain you and your family must have felt. I'm so glad the story has a happy end and the photo book that you've put together is beautiful, Paul. I love the reportage feel to it and it's very well done.
