Despite living in the largest city in the world, I'm not a city boy. I'm not a street photographer, and despite a verbose tendency, I don't really like talking to people. I live and work in very much the same part of town, sometimes in the same office.

My work is a hardware reviewer for about 1/3 of the year and a hardware photographer for the other 2/3. I shoot earphones, amps, speakers, audio interfaces, cables- anything audio I shoot. My clients are manufacturers, magazines, and websites.

As such, I think that what I shoot will be boring to most people. In this post you will see what I mean. It is all table top or living room stuff. Not exciting except to real geeks. Anyway, I like the focus of this site and intend to use it, albeit at a pace probably slower than other people. Who knows, I may use it properly.

Thank you Kev. I'm keen to meet other audiophiles (strange as I'm not a people person). I am actually attending the world's largest headphone fair this Saturday/Sunday in Tokyo. Actually, I am the event photography for a small interview. Really it is a small world I live in.

Hello Brian,

I use a D800 (not MF backs like some people do) and either:
2/100 Makro Planar
2,8/85 PC Micro Nikkor ED
2/50 Ai Nikkor (50$!)

And lots of lights, reflectors, and other modifiers. I will be selling my D800 as its remote control and remote viewing (for placement and light set up) isn't good by any definition. I will be getting the Sony A7R for that as Sony's live view is much better and remote options far superior.

Hi, Nathan, and welcome. I see Fostex earphones there. I use a Fostex FR2 LE sound recorder - very good quality for what I do. I like what I've seen of your images so far.

I'm sorry, MF in my parlance stands for medium format. Some people use them for small product photography, but I've found that unless you are using high sync flash and water or dust movement, it is largely unnecessary for the stuff I take. So I use 35mm 'full frame' sensors. I used to shoot with a D200 and had similar results.

Interesting Nathan. I'll be interested to see how you get on with the Sony as we do a fair bit of macro-style technical shots and Liveview is useful for that in some cases.

Hello Brian, sorry. MF I shot before was film, but I don't shoot it anymore. I also don't shoot MF digital, just 35mm digital via D800. There isn't a MF back for current Nikons. Nikon used to make MF glass but don't anymore.

Nathan, I believe he may also secretly be Chief Inspector of The Dust Police, a species that often plagues and harasses innocent and well-meaning film shooting RPFrs. (Those specs on my images are stars, @Pete Askew! )

Back when I used big lights rather than strobes, I didn't need Live view or a handheld monitor, but with strobes, I can't afford the time or back pain to keep going back to the camera to see how the image is progressing. I need to be able to carry an iPhone or iPad with me as I adjust things around. Without… it is a headache… and backache.

EDIT: BTW, I love your surf city site. Very very cool theme and images. Must be nice to get out!
