Eye Op

I've been doing many REALLY BAD shots this last three months, and thought there was something wrong with my trusty Hexar. Alas, the problem turns out to be my right eye, the one I shoot with. But it can easily be fixed, so the news is not so bad. It is a cataract, and the operation to remove it and replace it with a plastic lens, is said to be a very easy routine op. But there's a bit of a wait - they're looking at sometime in late February or March.

These are the best - by far! - of today's XP2 film.

I've taken better shots with my phone, but that's because I'm using both eyes to see the image on the screen. I could use my left eye with the Hexar, but it just doesn't feel right. No matter, it's only a few months before normality returns. Then I'll have one eye with a plastic lens - my very own Holga!

Sorry to hear about the eye - I can sympathise. And the interesting thing is, that I be when you compose with the other eye, that doesn't work. It didn't for me.

The first two are still damn fine images. I especially like that the figure takes a bit to find. The last one looks like some sort of light leak / progressing fault - more like the latter.

Ah, you posted your left eye problems before I finished writing. I focus / compose with my left. I'm rubbish (or more rubbish) with my right - a shame really given that I use a rangefinder so often!

Pete - how are your eyes these days? I remember you also had problems.

I've had a few re-activations of the lesion but at the moment all is Ok. I'll get a check-up in December. I can spot the symptoms really early now and so can start taking pressure control drops even before the ophthamologist can see the immune cells. Still a pain though as it takes about 6 weeks to settle down.

Sorry to read of your eye problem Rob, like Pete I too can sympathise, I've had cataracts in both eyes and needed further laser surgery on both eyes and my vision was like going from an old 70's tv to full modern HD.

Some people think eye operations are scary but I found the worst part was getting the eye drops in for the anesthetic.

Anyway good luck and I hope everything goes well and keep snapping.

Thanks, Glen. Much appreciated. I'm learning that cataracts and their ops are fairly common. Sorry to hear about yours, but all seems well now. Not sure if I could cope with full HD, though!

Sorry to hear about your eye problem. I know several people who have had cataracts fixed, they all said it was straightforward and made a huge difference afterwards.

Like the picure of the old cemetary, they do make great subjects.
