f/s Can anyone give me some advice??

Hi,
My name is Jan and I am not a photographer unless you count pointing your phone every now and again
(Which after reading a few of your posts I seriously doubt!!) I found this website while doing some research into some old (1980,s, ok maybe not so old)) equipment of my late Husband's with a view to selling it. After trawling through Ebay and a few other websites I am totally confused as if it it any good or not so wondered if any of you would be kind enough to advise.
No problem if not, just thought it might be worth asking the question and I have really enjoyed reading the posts
Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan, sorry to here of your loss. I'm sure we can help. Do you have a list of what he had. Maybe you could even point your phone at some bits if you are uncertain! :)

And, who knows you might even get interested in photography. Quite a few people here started out pointing their phone at things and a lot still do! There's even a section dedicated to it and, again, there are people to help if you want to get involved.

Camera Phones

Anyway, try to make a list and, at the least, we'll try and help you decide what to do with it.

Kind Regards,

Hi Pete
Thank you for responding so quickley, and your comments. Its not a recent loss I have just had no incentive to sort things out until now, my daughter is getting married next year so I thought I might try to raise a bit towards that.
Anyway, here's my list
Zenith TTL with black leather case + Handbook
Standard lens( I believe) Helios 44m 2/58
Zoom lens Pentacon 4/200
Wide Angle lens Pentacon 3.5/30
Flash Sunpak Auoto 200
Pullman bag with Pentax strap
Lens cloth + 4 wooden brushes
I sat and listed everything after a few trips round ebay!!
All this was bought from Jessups in Leicester about 1981 and was only used a few times as we then "progressed"!! to an instamatic camera.( My Husabnd was a bit "Mr Toad" at times) It all looks like new to me and has probably sat in a cupboard for over 25 years. There is actually a roll of undeveloped film in the bag that I am going to get developed to see if I can work out exactly when was the last time it was used.
Thanks again
Jan

I am looking for an SLR so I might be interested in the camera :) just working out exactly what I am after but it definatly looks like something I may be interested in - im new to photography so something simple and manual might be exactly what I am looking for, will await Hamish to arrive to put the correct sort of value on it so I can see if its something within my price bracket :)

Looks spot on for what im after, just need to wait for Hamish to suggest a value on it lol :D

Hi Jan
welcome to the forum!
Sorry For you loss, recent or otherwise :/

I seem to have been given the responsibilty of giving these bits some value ...
So I will give it a go, it's very hard without seeing them or knowing working condition
unfortunately I suppose this is not the camera equivelent of the ark of the covenent ... What you have here is some Russian made fairly ... How to put this ... Not the most reputable gear in terms of out of the factory quality control.
Because of this it is even more difficult to value! It's not bad kit by all accounts, as long as it works ... And thats always the issue with Russian cameras
Based on your comments the following is what I would be willing to spend on this gear in a 'working condition unknown' state.

Zenit TTL with Helios 2/50 £20 (75% of that is the value of the lens)
Pentacon 4/200 £20
Pentacon 3.5/30 £20
job lot £50 would be reasonably fair on eBay
if you took it to a car boot you would be looking at £20 at a push
if you take it for px or to sell to a shop I'd expect them to turn you away or offer you £10 maybe

The rest has no real value IMO

I hope that helps ... Sorry not to have better news :/

Hi Hamish
Thank you for your time, I must say I am a little disappointed as the individual items have gone for more than that on ebay but as they say "one man's meat"!!! I shall probably list it on ebay and see what happens
Thanks again
Jan

Note to Pete - That must be a "magic phone" the photo's stunning

Sorry , I am into canon . If you go here - you can maybe find the value of your stuff .

There are a lot of people looking for older gear - you can do things with it that you can not with newer stuff .
Alway say your price plus shipping . I buy things off ebay and sometimes shipping is more than the article .
Good luck - sorry about husband and congratulation on daughters wedding .
I just posted and you just click where it says untitled

Perhaps, but you have to take into account that you might not be the best person to photograph or describe the items in their best light... as i say "working condition unknown"
To remedy this, you could go to a local camera shop and ask them if it all works ... ?

Thanks Hamish,
I thought taking it to someone local might be an option, I am deffinitely not the right person to know about it!!!
At the moment I have put it back in the cupboard, I am going on holiday soon and will get on to it when I get back
It has sat for 25 years so another few weeks is not going to make any difference.
Thankyou all for taking the time to reply
Jan
