Fraisthorpe Beach

This is a 6X7 Fuji Velvia shot using a Mamiya RB67. Gorgeous film, excellent camera. Again, 2007.

Wonderful stuff Shaun.

Is a beach light shelter? Is it as described ... a shelter for a beach light? In the UK, what is a beach light? Why is there a beach light at Fraisthorpe Beach? Is a beach light similar to a 'lighthouse' ( a navigation light)? Why does a beach light require a shelter?
Regardless of my ignorance, both images are wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

Gary, back in WW2 there was a real fear of invasion. This, it was assumed, would take place on low lying areas and beaches so huge concrete beach light shelters were built to house searchlights. These would illuminate beaches as enemy troops landed. Such items are quite rare now having been battered by nature for almost a century. They are stark and quite threatening especially when still on a family beach.

Thank you for your comments Gary. This is not ignorance. This is an enquiring mind. Very different concepts.
