This is The Water Of Leith, which cuts through Edinburgh. Both taken hand held from the same spot. I was using Shutter Priority mode for the first time, just as an experiment. I know S mode is usually reserved for sports, fast-moving things, or miraculously creating milk out of water, but doesn't have to be. The first is f2 1/3200, the second f8 1/400 - two very different settings, again as an experiment.

They were edited in LR6, a few adjustments here and there to exposure, shadows, blacks, whites, etc. I then took a look at them in Elements, and decided to add a little sharpening.

Nice shots, Rob. How do you like the 50mm? I have the same lens on my D7100 right now, but I prefer the 35mm on a crop sensor body. Both lenses are super light and fairly sharp for their price and build. In my opinion, they are the best value lenses Nikon makes. Where else can you find a lens that sells for <$100 refurbished that gives results like these? Oh, btw, watch out for CA with this lens. I get some pretty obvious color fringing with mine. LR does a really good job of getting rid of it.

Hi John. I'm delighted with the lens, which I've used on my F4 as well. Excellent quality on either camera. I got mine second hand from Hamish, who part-created this forum for a great price with the F4. I also have a Nikkor 85mm 1.4, which is superb, and a 28mm 2.8D from Ivar, which is not of the same quality as the others, but useful to have. I would like to have a good-quality wide-angle lens for some landscapes, so have one eye out for that.

I'll look out for the colour fringing. Cheers.

It was, actually, much to everyone's surprise. But cold. Great to get out in the sun, though, even though we were still wrapped in five layers!

What a difference between the b&w and colour. The house behind the trees is much more obvious in the b&w. I like them both, but am almost always biased towards b&w. I'm partial to the old Bogie and Bacall movies.

BTW, any trout in that stream?

I also prefer the b&w version, but thought I'd show the colour version for comparison.

No trout that I've heard of, John, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone fish there. I don't know why, as the water comes in from the big Forth river, itself from the North Sea. Perhaps it's illegal. I've no idea. If it did have trout, I'm sure there would be many people fishing there every day, illegal or otherwise.
