And from further North up the beach...

This is Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA - taken this evening around sunset.

5D2 with 28-70 and 17-35 lenses - f22 - long exposures.

I ended up with my camera on it's tripod stranded 15' out in the ocean at some points, as the waves came in!

Using 'live view' on the 5D2 locks the mirror up, and I then used the 2 sec timer to ensure I had no camera shake.

The $10 hot-shoe spirit level was awesome - best $10 I ever spent on a photography accessory.

I'll be heading back here for more shots I think - I've already worked out that the sun will set in the doorway at the end of the pier on May 1st 2011...

Final version - ND filter, long exposure to smooooth out the ocean

Final final shot - long exposure shot of the 'gateway' to blur the ocean - surfers removed in PS - dust spots removed!

I like the smoothed out water, with the ND, in shot five...

Here you go Pete

I really like the last version the pastel tones and soft water work very well together! I could see that as one of those nice photo art pictures you get ...

Good idea Hamish - I should see where/who would be interested in such images - might be worth a few bucks.

I could also see it as one of those 'motivational' office pictures, where you have a nice photo with a tag line on the bottom.

Something like - 'Stop daydreaming and get back to work!' LOL

I like the final version Chris, nice colour and composition

I actually like the 4th shot - post #5 - a lot too.

The only thing that jars is the crane(?) at the end of the pier, and the general untidiness of the pier top along it's length; no fault of the photographer!

Going to say Tim - I can't fix the pier!

It's a private pier used by oceanic researchers, hence the rather 'industrial' look.

this is my fav really is an awesome picture........ i think the others are a little to light, bright & need a bit of contrast for my preference........!!

May 1st is here already, so I'll be heading out later to capture the sun setting at the end of the pier.

Will get there early to bag the prime spot, and hope for good light.
