Gibson ES-345

Taken by Rhona, but messed around with by me...

This is the guitar Susan got me for my birthday - the next ten birthdays and Christmases put together! A Gibson ES-345. Gibson have brought out a copy of their fabled 1959 and 1964 versions of this model, and mine is the latter, apparently period-correct in all details. It's a great blues guitar. I'll get around to a video later, but my amplifier is not great...so I'll start saving for one worthy of the instrument.

Seen that before, but it's always worth hearing again. Cheers, Glenn. I have a free day tomorrow, so unless the girls get me involved in things (as they often do) I'll see if I can get the video equipment out.

Finally got around to making a video. I'll be honest, I was feeling a bit flat, so it lacks fireworks. It starts with me improvising a jazz-style arrangement of a tune by a saxophonist called Wayne Shorter, while reading the melody from a book. Then comes what is called a Shout Chorus, similar to what the old jazz big bands used to play. Then come two improvised blues solos with boring backing tracks. I really don't like playing with backing tracks, as they are generally uninspiring. But short of getting a band together, it's the best I can do. It does give a good idea of the sound I'm aiming for - very clean, with just a little breakup on the edge of the notes. 6 minutes in all.

You're a lucky man Rob - wife, guitar, contentment, and mad skills :)
