Giving up on Nikon And SLR's for good

Got my Olympus OM-2N (SLR) tuned up a few weeks ago. Man I do love that wee camera. Its loaded with Neopan 400 at the moment. Its a joy to shoot and the sound of the shutter and the sound/feel of the advance mechanism are sweet. Dij doesn't give me that.

Love those camera's also. I have several iterations of the OM series and shall never part with them.

Julian I have the OM-2N and an OM-2SP. The former I purchased from a friend whose father had used it for his work when he was a photographer for the LA County Coroner's office several decades ago. I think I described a while back how I found some forensic images on the film still in the camera. Anyway, it had developed a slow shutter curtain and this cause half the frame to be black when shooting at high speed (1/500th and up). The 2SP I purchased at a local charity shop. It came with a Zuiko zoom lens but unfortunately the shutter speed adjustment ring was extremely hard to turn. Dean, of Dean's camera repair in Carson California, told me it might not be repairable. However, he managed to find the parts and so now it is my 2nd OM. Meg, my youngest, recently expressed an interest in buying a "good camera." She's going off to college in Sept and I think she wants to photograph/film dance and choreography (which is what she will be studying). I think she may inherit the 2SP as a starter. (Note to self: Make sure children learn about film photography.)

Brian the great thing is , as many like my daughter, youngsters interested in photography prefer film camera's. Seems not only more hip, they genuinely prefer the results. Maybe also at college there will be access to darkrooms for Meg.

I got mine from a flea market, a guy had several bodies, with lenses in a pile on a table. He asked £70 quid for the lot, we ended up at £30, four bodies and six or seven lenses.. Also an Oly 35-70 f3.5 and 135mm which is ok among the bag full. At first I thought some of the bodies were duff, as the'd not wind on and shoot. It took a while to realise those ones needed a battery and are not pure mechanical camera's. Love the OM's viewfinders as well.

You got a great deal, Julian. Because I got both of mine repaired I'm into them for a fair chunk of change now, but I rationalize this away by reminding myself of my love for the handling of these cameras. Plus, the OOF from my Zuiko 50/1.8 is simply delicious.
