In keeping with my recent 50's desktop theme http://www.realphotographersforum.com/forum/threads/atomic-living.12894/ and the mid-century color scheme - meet Glamorous Glennis :)

Nothing kicked the 50's into gear like the breaking of the sound barrier - and this is a desktop model of the plane Chuck Yeager flew to do just that, in 1947. (He named it Glamorous Glennis after his wife)

The Bell X-1 was the rocket powered test plane, dropped from a bomber over the Californian desert, which eventually broke through the sound barrier for the first time.

Looks ace on my 50's steel desk at the home office - and matches the orange button on my 50's desk lamp, and my retro tape dispenser!

Cool. All that and the fins on the 50's cars were also from the fins on these planes. You need a 57 Caddie or Chevy on you desk also.

Great images & story to go with them. Number 1 particularly is a great capture :)
Thanks @Dave Young - shot #2 was a bit of an afterthought, just to show the matching tape dispenser!

I have pictures of cars from that era on one wall, so I'm bringing them into the office that way @Glenn Clabo :)

beautiful as always chris. i'm not entirely convinced that it's true after working on some genealogy projects, but my grandmother (who's maiden name is yeager) swears that chuck yeager is her cousin.
Thanks @Beth Anthony - Cousins - How cool would that be! You should check it out
