Between 1786 and 1788 Johann Wolfgang Goethe visited Padua, Italy, using a fake name to hide behind anonymity (unlike us real photographers). At the botanical garden he saw a dwarf palm tree that inspired his theory of plant metamorphosis. Today we call this palm "Goethe's Palm." In this photo, taken through glass still clouded by morning condensation, you can see his little hairy creature, which so dwarf today is no more.
