Good Guys custom car show

A colourful day out today at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego.

This is the annual Good Guys custom car show - a huge event with thousands of custom vehicles of every shape, colour and style

I took a mix of full car and detail shots with the 28-70 f2.8L lens as we walked around.

cool! you have to wonder if the owners of these cars manage to hold down relationships with the commitment they obviously make to their cars!

We asked one of the owners of a winning car about the commitment level required to get a car finished to that level.

It was $300,000!

He said his wife had several cars as well, so I'm thinking these guys find sympathetic wives who like cars, and huge bank accounts...

I guess it's a bit like juggling my hobbies with Hannah ... She also enjoys photo taking, and thankfully helped me choose some nice expensive speakers for the hifi ... You just have to make sure to share these things with tother arf!!

Those cars are just unbelievably clean! It doesn't seem like they actually drive them anywhere for fear of getting dirt on them. Cracking photo's Chris and despite the bright colours I really like the BW shot.

Paul - I don't believe they drive them at all between shows - they get trailered in and polished up, then trailered home

It sets a level of 'perfection' which is unobtainable to most, and un-sustainable in the real world.

However - a short walk from the winners circle to the 'drive in and show' area, produced hundreds of really nice cars which people actually drive and use - so it's not all doom and gloom.
