Garry Lee's my name, I'm a refugee from pixelpeepers and abuse on Dpreview! Chris Dodkin asked me to try this place of refuge. I'm 61 and retired. Have been a lover of photography since about the age of 28. I used to process my own and print in the old days and even did some colour printing (Aaarrrgghhh!).
I have developed a simple philosophy of photography. It's that the ordinary photograph of people and places, but especially people in places, that becomes the great photograph with the passage of time. I'm not hugely gone on gimmicks, though I'll do some slanted shots in weddings etc. I've done quite a number of weddings in my time but only for relatives and friends. It's very pressurising.
I still have some film cameras but only use them occasionally.
Cycling and cycletouring are a big interest and I've done about 68 bike tours in my time. I like combining it with photography. Currently I use 2 Panasonic G1 bodies with both zooms for this. I mostly use big Canon gear for the rest. There is no perfect camera.
The most beautiful place I've been is the Piana/Porto area of Corsica.
I don't believe in assessing photographs by looking at 100%. If it looks fine in a print, it is fine! I much rather an imperfect photo with something else like image content than perfect dullness!!
