Gunfight at the OK Corral.

This is one of my favourite running shots.

It's the final of the Irish 800m championships this year. The girl in front is Ciara Mageean who's about 19 at this stage. Very talented and a future Olympian no doubt. The girl behind is Laura Crowe who trains with my daughter's club, though she's from Co.Kerry, but lives in Cork. Laura is very fast. What happened is that Ciara took off like a rocket from the off, catching Laura by surprise. This shot is towards the end of the first lap, there being two laps in an 800. This all out pace continued until they rounded this bend for the second time, when both had, not surprisingly slowed considerably. Ciara fell over the line and Laura was a couple of yard behind her, but another girl who had run more moderately pipped both on the line. She was as astonished as anyone that she had won.
But this shot captures the speed and the intensity of the race, I think.
Shot is a crop, taken with Canon 1Div and 300mm Sigma f2.8 at f2.8

They look shattered!
determination in the front runner thats for sure
the OOF people are framed perfectly as a back drop!
So this is short distance is it? i got the impression your daughter was more into long distance running?

Yes, my daughter does longer distances. She does not have the speed of an 800m runner but few of them have her endurance. Ciara will be a great runner, I think. She is easily Ireland's best at her age.
