Not knowing much about the world of photographers, I'd seen this pic linked in the past as the most Expensive to date. So learnt some more and thank you Brian.
Although I did much prefer the previously most valuable Photograph auction at one time Edward Steichen: “The Pond – Moonlight”, (1904). Actually prefer other Photographs of Gursky that I know of over this one acclaimed image.
Worth? Always an odd ball valuation which the art world creates itself to a large extent and needs to to sustain . Although having had friends who have made it seriously in the art world , that is all they tend to do, from breakfast to bedtime and took that road for the love of it, knowing that in may cases a lot of artists live hand to mouth, they were prepared to do it regardless and over time still love it for what it is , even though they do not need to financially. One thing that stood them out, was there ability, combined with their need to produce and reliability to produce good quality work. In many ways good old grafters. All I know if you took all the art away in the world it would be a poorer place for it and say good luck to anyone who makes a a bit from it so they can carry on with there love in life.
