We are building a new website and nurturing a little bit the brand of a local the hair and beauty salon. Part of the job is a set of staff headshots. It seemed daft to do the often used white background for them when we could take the shots of the girls around the salon itself ... Im pretty pleased with the outcome! There are about 25, this is a few of my favorites

I like the look for how you are going to use the shots. The gal in the second shot is the natural model of the 4 here - a very relaxed and natural pose. Conversely, the last one is pretty stiff looking - the smile looks frozen in place:)

The WB on the first one seems off (unless she has the world's worst spray-on tan job). Her complexion is quite orange and her neck is yellow. It is also the most "commercial" in style and pose - could be a stock image (not necessarily bad for your intended purpose).

I completely concur that shooting these in situ works a lot better than a typical seamless headshot.

I'm a fan of the environmental type people shots Hamish and you have every right to be pleased. Nice work. Of course it does help to have pretty good looking subject ya know.;)

While the lighting and subjects are nice there are elements in the background of every photo that are quite distracting to me. Will you be cropping thoseo out?

The girls reactions varied as much as you would expect, some so nervous we had to retake loads (the first girl), some posed, (the second), others grinned and dealt with it ...

You are right on the white balance of the first, I've corrected for the site ... She did have a tan, but it certainly wasn't that strong ... It was also emphasised by the light she was facing I think!

I couldn't possibly comment ;)

No, the background elements are there for a reason, they add to the "feel" we are trying to portray through the images of a busy, warm, welcoming, professional salon

Any thoughts of checking out B&W versions Hamish - bet they'd be lovely in mono as well

Agree on #1 - looks like the tungsten mirror lighting caught her face

Love the very bright feel in 1-3

I'm pretty sure I've spoken to the second lass in the past.... How, why, where is unknown.....

Brilliant photos though H, I think you have excelled in getting a natural feel to them. Good to see that there is no generic white backround...
Well done
