They leave them hanging for the carrion birds to peck away at and devour bit by grizzly bit! Its a charming local custom.

We have a system in our town. You put a pumpkin or other Halloween decorations out to show that Trick or Treaters are welcome. That's what the kids done the they went out trick or treating so I was left answering the door every bloody five minutes!
