Harry Benson On The Bbc Wesite

Pete...amazing photographer. I got to see his exhibit at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., in 2007(?)...

Wow - not aware of him until this video link - iconic

I'd seen Benson's images before. Coincidentally, I watched a film last week that he was briefly in. The film was called "Smash His Camera." It's a documentary about the paparazzi photographer Ron Galella. The film is called "Smash His Camera" because that was what Jackie O told a Secret Service officer to do after Galella got a picture of her in Central Park.

Anyway, Gallela was (is, actually,...he's still alive and is in his 80s now) quite a character. He was famously punched in the mouth by Marlon Brando. Broke Galella's jaw and knocked out some teeth. Harry Benson was speaking about this incident in the film. Benson seemed to be an admirer of Galella and no fan of Brando, who's personality Benson described in distinctly unflattering terms. Anyway, here in the USA "Smash His Camera" is available on Netflix streaming service. Its an enjoyable film.

Thanks for posting the link, Pete. I enjoyed it.
