The falls are about 400 ft high. There is a large spring above the falls that provide the main flow but other springs pop out of the rock part way down. The trail I was on climbs to the spring pond above the falls. The orange vegetation is either some aspen trees or perhaps mountain maple.
One of the advantages of finding fall color in a mountainous area like the Rocky Mountain Front in Montana is caused by the elevational differences. At my home just east of the mountains our trees are still mostly green although a few have some color. But in the mountains at higher elevations the season is more advanced. In fact this morning, the sun illuminated the mountains after a stormy period yesterday and the summits had some nice white frosting on them.
I'm heading out tomorrow for a five day trip and I'll hopefully see the complete run of fall from late summer through early winter. Should be fun.
In case you missed it,
I started a separate thread with the Autumn Theme. But when I posted it I screwed up the title. The other thread is titled Headquarters Fall - (Autumn Theme) but the photo I present is of a place called My Lake.
Yes Chris, it was a cloudy day. It really helped the colors I think. I suppose it's a fairly common technique but when the sky is cloudy I usually ry to keep as much Pf the sky out of the photo as possible.
