HELIOS 44M - 4 2/58

Asked a business in China to send an M42 to M/4/3 adapter. Some twenty days later it arrived. Not as good as the China made cheap ones I have got from Uk stock. I need to glue it together as it has already started to wiggle and the screws are somewhat damaged. Used it today with the Helios 44M - 4 2/58. I always thought this was a 50mm lens for some reason. So I now have a 116mm,35mm equivalent f2 lens for the OM-D :D.

Tried it out today, interior of Supreme Sunbeam.

David apart from the c/y 50 T* planner that is it my only Z lens, I use it on the OM-D, can send me a few to try if you wish :D. I like the Helios on the OM-D and also the Nex 5n i it gives a good rendition. Yes I'd love to have many more alternative good lenses but alas. The Roker 58 1:1.2 is something i'd enjoy and a decent wide 12 or 15mm , maybe one day I'll walk into a junk shop and who knows.

It has certainly made a good job of rendering those shots. Very nice and the relatively low contrast suits them well. :)

Pete not knowing the ins and out of lenses, but I do see their different characteristics clearly. Yes this lens appears to give a low contrast yet a soft clarity , something i have not really explored much and I must.

great shots. congrats on the new(ish) lens. from these shots it looks like it'll serve you well.

Thanks Beth, I originally got this for the Sony nex5n from a old Zenit, so M42. It worked well on the Nex. Hope to use it more on the M4/3.

the Helios is a nice lens for sure... The older ones are even lower contrast from what I have seen
Nice shots too!

Thanks Hamish, yes I suspect so.

Nice images, Julian. I have that lens, too. (Came with a Zenit 12XP that I got off E-bay. Always liked the images from that lens.)

Your Sunbeam?

Thanks Brian I owe you, prompted me to look at what model Zenit I had and same here a 12XP . I presumed the camera to be broken and it was in the camera bin. Dug it out fiddled and it's working. So may play with it sometime. One problem the OVF has a brown dribble running down through it. Had thought about getting into the prism to clean it? Not being of monetary value it may be an ok project even if it goes wrong.

I wish, a C3 for me. The Sunbeam was on display, part of a Rally.
