Bumped into Hamish on the Art of Sound website, and had some good chats about gear and whatnot, so thought I'd jump on here and say hello :¬)

Professional photographer - predominantly weddings but also shoot lifestyle, beauty/fashion and model portfolios.

If you're ever in the area, Butley Priory is a lovely place.

oi oi ... good to see you on board matey! ... we have just been cursing you and your "better than ours" wedding photography in the office ;)

look forward to continuing our chats here in here ... ... always get a little nervous chatting in aos about it ... like i have somthing to prove ... no idea why ... ... ...

Just make me wanna be better ... there a lot of your style in what i aim for ... cant be a bad thing :)

There's that style word again. I remember when I was starting out (and reading far too much rather than practicing shooting) people would comment 'develop your own style', over and over. That used to confuse me "How on earth can I do that?".

The answer is to shoot naturally/instinctively, with confidence. Don't be afraid to take the shot, or get in closer. They are the shots that are the most rewarding :¬)

Seen the film Leon? The 'pro' assassins use a knife, because it takes more skills to get in close. That's kinda like photography for me (minus the killing aspect of it!). The closer into the action you can get, the more fun it becomes :¬) I'll often get into a chat with some wedding guests then whack out the 24-70 @ 24mm. Love those kind of shots, and as not many people have the **** to do it, they really stand out :¬)

Im right with you ... all the way ... people almost expect to have a camera in thier face ... and if you can make them like you before you do it your on to a winner ... i told a guest to f**k off on friday ... in a jovial way of course ... i nearly **** my pants after i said it ... thankfully it went down without any issue ... having that relaxed attitude is what wins the day! although i admit that sort of language was a bit far ... it just slipped out from being in that relaxed frame of mind ...

when i say style i aim for ... its more the ultra modern look to the images i haven't quite mastered ... i think some of it is in the jaunty angles and very clean pp! ... ... ??

Haha! I bet you did! I shot a wedding recently where the language was what one can call 'colourful' :¬) Meeting the couple for a few drinks actually, they are great people and we got on really well.

I do like non-normal angles, yeah. They offer a non-human (i.e. standing upright - what you see all day every day) perspective of a situation. Angles are great for framing/composition. I find that when ducking and diving to get in close, the angles take care of themselves :¬)

It's a sense of freedom your shots have that mine so far lack I think ... "Ducking and diving" explains that! :)

Got some shots to play with from Friday ... I'll get a couple up when there done ...
I did take a few with some of yours I'd seen in mind I have to admit ... ... ... :)

Check out this guy www.richardbarley.co.uk .. Local to me competition and all round good bloke ... Have always taken a little something from his shooting ...

I'm sure you give yourself too much of a hard time Hamish. With a cracking location and good looking people I bet your wedding shots come out better than fine.

However what are you supposed to do if the groom looks like a bag of spanners, the bride like she's been set on fire and put out with a spade and the wedding in a terrible location? Do you turn those down?

I don't concider it a hard time as such ... I'm quite happy in the knowledge I have room for improvement ... Not being aware of that would let me rest on my laurels and what's the benefit in that ...

My sentiments exactly! Every wedding I try and do something different and improve from the last one :¬)

As Paul says, location and particularly handsome couples make a difference. I would say the location more, as if you check out some people who charge thousands per wedding, the photography is quite basic, while the locations leap off the page/screen.
