Hello from Greece

I would like to greet everyone.

I am happy that I found this forum.

Hi Dimitris

I hope you dont mind me posting this

Great photos, really very nice... and no way did you deserve the comments on dpreview about it not be worth you having a 5dii, crazyness!
Anyway, lets not dwell too much on that, just be rest assured you wont find any of that sort of thing around these parts!

Welcome again, I'm sure you will enjoy the forum!
Feel free to post some photos and get stuck in ... we are still quite a quiet forum (especially compared to dpreview) but we are all friendly and any criticism here is always entirely constructive!

I guess he was attacking to 5D.
I have upload them here to get some proper feedback.
Thanks for the welcoming!

Yeah, really nice, I particularly like the third shot
The lighting is very nice, soft and ideal for the subject!
the separation from the background is also very nice, how did you light him?
the 'Pose' in the second one is a little uncomfortable, for me although i don't think it detracts too much!
the first one is what i would call a "mantle piece shot" :)

I have just had a baby and have been taking lots of photos of her ... it is my intention to do more of this sort of thing i think, its very enjoyable taking photos of youngsters i think ... they dont have the inhibitions about being photographed that adults have

I used a 430 EXII with shoot through umbrella, off camera triggered with rf-602.Post processed only with lightroom 3.I think Lightroom is one of the best tools around.I also use Photoshop a lot,but I am very pleased with the result from LR3.
I am also waiting for my son :),3 more months to go!!!!!!We are at the 28th week.Congratulations for your daughter!!!
The difficult part was to pose him,he could not stand still. These photos are candids.I need to find some ways to interact and make them stand still.

My advice would be exactly the opposite, let them do what they want, interact, but as passively as possible ... you will probably find that people actually prefer the more candid shots anyway!
I think you have the lighting perfect, I have a similar set up, but i actually tend to rely on natural light... its easier, but my shots do lack the separation from the background that you have achieved!

I am a BIG lightroom fan! its by far the best tool i have used, but then it was also the first of its kind i used so i may be saying the same about aperture or capture one etc if i had started with any of them!
what i have liked about it most is the fact that it has seemed to grow with me as a photographer (ive been using it since version 1) I would go as far to say that it has actually tought me a thing or too ... which is a strange thing to say about a piece of software! It has certainly allowed my style to develop freely i think!

Welcome Dimitris!! :) :)

Lots of great folks on the forum, lots of positive discussion and ideas, lots of actual photography (a novel idea these days!)

I think you'll love it.

Taking pictures of kids is a real challenge, that will stretch the abilities of man and camera - they never stand still!

I chase my grand-kids around with my 5D2, and it's all I can do to get an in focus shot of the little tykes!!

Have you tried using Ai-Servo, holding the camera down at their level with a wide lens, and shooting away as they run about?

The results can be excellent - and the bad ones just never get seen ;)

Looking forward to more pictures, and maybe some of your home country :)

That was the next thing I was planning to try.I will try Ai-servo for sure.I know it uses extra 6 point for focus, that will make things easier I guess.I like so much the umbrella light, that I don't think I will run about with them.

I will upload some pictures from Greece.Greece is a lovely place.Where should I post them?

welcome to the forum Dimitris, I just been looking at your site, you defo good with that camera, you have some awesome photos on your site :-)

Except for my grandson, I've given up on kids for the reasons Chris mentions. Your shots though are nice. There are a couple on your websie that I like even more than the three you attached to this thread. Nice work. I also like your landscape work, especially the backlit rural scenes. Welcome to the forum. I'm definitely looking to see more of Greece through your eyes!
