Hello from London

I'm James and I've been taking pictures for almost 60 years, although I got into photography via an unusual route - my interest (or obsession) with fine machinery. Although nowadays the cameras mostly sit idle as the vast majority of my photography is done with my iPhone.

My fine machinery obsession led me to mechanical watches, and I have written about them for almost 40 years now - so, if anyone has a query about watches or timekeeping, feel free to ask.

There is a closer relationship between cameras and watches then most people realise; Leica now produce and sell a range of mechanical watches; one of the earliest digital rangefinders was the Epson RD-1, a digital version of the Voightlander Bessa - Epson is a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko and Seiko themselves produced leaf shutters for just about every Japanese camera maker.

Welcome to RPF, James. What a great intro! :)
Thank you, I had almost expected that my admission of using mostly my iPhone might have resulted in my immediate expulsion.

Welcome James! I too have an interest in watches. I have even taken them apart and put them back together (taking macro photos along the way). You appear to have had slightly longer photography journey that my 54 years...

Welcome to the forum [again]. I’m really glad I joined this forum; I find it very useful and inspiring, and I hope you'll do too.

My watch is very cheap and I bought it at a 50% discount, so I know you wouldn’t be interested in it at all. But I liked the logo design: it reads ‘brAun’.

Actually also my kitchen wall clock is a brAun.
