Hi everyone this is just to say hi and a little about me!
I am a full time carer for my fiance who takes photographs as a hobby. As for cameras until about 4 years ago I stuck to film cameras starting out when I was 15 with a Practika MTL5 (although cheap was a geat learning tool as everything was manual) eventually moving up to a Nikon F3. Digital started with a cheap Fuji a350 which was a christmas present now I mainly use a Fuji S4000 which I find is brilliant for carrying on long walks as a SLR would be heavier. For me getting the shot is the fun bit what happens after at times I never worry about which is likely why I have 13,500 photo's on flickr all public I have been lucky to have had a few published in magazines

Welcome Dave, I think I share your ethos of 'getting the shot is the fun bit' ... you'll have a great time here

Hi Dave welcome (again ;))

I'm not sure many people use the gallery very much, it's a good place to store the pics but the convention once stored there is to also post them in the forum ...

The shot "a portrait of lord litchfield" is a stroke of genius!

Hope you don't mind me posting it here

Loads to look at, lovely compo etc then you notice the figure mostly obscured by the wall ...
Really oddly spooky for some reason! Love it!!

I would love to know who that little girl was. the insparation for the shot was the fact Lord Lichfield shot a lot in Black and white and while I was at Shugborough I felt inspired to try the black and white setting on the camera.
I had PP shots in B&W before but felt that sometimes they didnt work as well as film B&W I saw the portrait of Lord Lichfield in the distance so tried it I will be using the setting a lot more now! Thank you Hamish for your coments

That's a real nice picture. Welcome Dave! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Hamish,...I see the spooky in it too. It's like some scene from that Steven King story that Jack Nicholson was in the movie version of. Deserted hotel up in the Rocky Mountains. What was that film again...?

Welcome to the forum Dave - you'll fit right in with shots like that - a stunner :)

Here's Johnny! :)

You should!!
Let us know how you get on!
You will have to tell us about these published images too, that's quite an achievement!

It does certainly seem harder to get good b&w from digital than film
But not out of the question IMO

The shinning is bang on Brian, although I suppose technically it would need to be twin girls ...
Horror from that era had a lot more subtletly to what was spooky... Now we would get some distorted face looking around the corner or something obvious like that ... This sort of thing is a lot more unsettling I think! Have you see 'don't look now'?
That has the distorted face, but leads you to it all throughout the film with glimpses of a girl in a red coat around spooky venician streets ... Really odd film, and very unsettling!

I have a job today taking photos of Edward Jenner's house ... That's supposed to be haunted by all sort of small pox victims and the like ... Including I think Jenner's children! There are photos that supposedly capture a ghost ... I'm hoping to get one ;)

Nikon f3 eh?

One of my all time favorites! Do you still use it Dave?

Very occasionly it gets used mainly for family shots or portrait type shots in some ways I miss film photography but digital gives you more scope to experiment as if you dont like it you can always hit the delete key
